J.D. holds a BA in Political Science from Texas A&M University and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the American University in Washington, DC. He is a multi-year recipient of the Forbes | SHOOK Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, (2017, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23) a three-time past recipient of the Barron’s Top 1000 Advisors List, (2009, 10, 11) and a ten-time recipient of the Five Star Wealth Management award, (2014 – 2023).

J.D. is an avid reader, writer, fitness enthusiast, and runner who participated in the Houston and Boston Marathons. He is author of “The Story of Rich, a Financial Fable of Wealth and Reason During Uncertain Times,” published by Wiley Global Finance in 2012. Joyce has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Bloomberg, MarketWatch, Morningstar, Dallas Morning News, The Houston Chronicle, The Houston Business Journal, and the Business Times of Singapore.

J.D. is former president of the Houston Pachyderm Club, which informs Houstonians of political issues at the local, state and federal level. He currently serves as President of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs and is on the Board of Trustees at Houston Christian High School, where he serves as Treasurer on the Executive Committee, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He is a supporter of Houston arts, as well as organizations that support, train and empower the working poor.

J.D. and his wife Robyn have two daughters, Allyson and Ashley. All four are passionate about their faith. The Joyce family is active at Chapelwood United Methodist Church.

J.D.’s name stands as a Guinness World Record holder for swinging 240 consecutive hours in a hammock — a distinction earned when he was 19 while raising funds for Multiple Sclerosis.
